Mural Mapping - a chance to see your art projected multiple stories high.

What is Mural Mapping?

While projection mapping generally requires expertise in 3D animation software, Mural Mapping is a more traditional spin on the same idea that allows area artists to engage with projection mapping concepts. For Mural Mapping, LUMA creates a 2D scale drawing of a historic building facade which then gets screen printed onto canvas and paper, and made accessible as digital files. This allows dozens of local artists to work in whatever medium they choose: collage paint, pencil or anything else.

We highly encourage artists to consider the architecture presented in the template when creating their work, because the most compelling mappings incorporate building features. The finished works are reviewed, then 15 selected artworks are scanned in extremely high resolution and projected onto building facades throughout the festival weekend.

How to take part:

  • Mural Mapping: Adults

LUMA Projection Arts Festival invites area artists over the age 13 to be a part of the 2022 festival this coming Sept. 9th and 10th. Artists are invited to submit artworks for consideration that may be featured as a projection on the facade of a historic 84 Court St. building at the heart of Downtown Binghamton.

Submit “Mural Mapping” artwork created using drawing, painting, and collage on one of our building templates by August 8th. Our templates, available in both digital (down load below) and physical formats, and detail important structural features building we’ll be projecting on.

15 selected artworks will be translated by LUMA team members to bring the facade to life through projection mapping technology. We highly encourage artists to consider the architecture of the building when creating their proposals.
